S
i Scott Is an English illustrative artist who has a very distinctive style.  He uses shapes and patterns to create words and creatures.

Inspired by his work I’ve tried to create my own work in his style. We used wooden block words to draw around to help create the piece. Here is my progress:

Artists and Media.

I was considering what media to use for my final project and quite liked the idea of doing a mix media of pencil and watercolour. I set out to find some artists who work in this style and found an artist on Deviant Art called “Zeldis”.

I really like this image as I believe she’s done an amazing job of mixing the two medias and making it look realistic. The shading techniques used still show through the colouring adding extra interest to the piece. Some of the water marks on the child’s face look like they’ve been defined by pencil shading which adds a a more 3d effect to the image. I think the black shading in the background is actually shaded in direction to the child to resemble the rain and considering the shadows imply that it is a dark light/time of day, the rain would look like that.

Still Life

Essay draft:
Still life drawings were first seen in  ancient Egyptian tombs and the art style was carried on throughout the Middle ages and 16th centuary right up to  modern day.
The aim of still life drawings is to capture the natural beauty of an object such as a fruit or flower. The  subject of still life has provided a platform for artists to experiment with line and media to create realistic, or obscured, dictations of reality.
Willem Kalf –  Flemish artists. His still life painting commonly involve the same objects such as – vegetables, buckets, pots and pans. Any figures featured in the background were blurred. Kalf’s semi-monochrome still life’s are considered to have a large influence in French art for the richness of texture.

Where as Henri Matisse, a French artist (also sculpture, printmaker and draughtsman) in the 1920’s, intensified the visual experience of fruit and flowers with his expressive use of colour.
